Some Of The Best Dive Sites In Fiji

....Below is a brief overview of what you'll experience on some of the best dive sites in Fiji when diving with us. Over 14 years experience on these sites sees us best able to show you just what we have. We recommend around 5 days diving with us, longer if you don't mind repeat diving of sites. Places like Dream House sometimes need to be dived more than once to catch them at their best. We need to work with tides and currents to optimize your encounters with our hammerhead, grey reef & white tip sharks, and our very occasional silky, silver tip, tiger and bull sharks.

Dream House:
Max depth: 30m           Type of Dive: Moored (15 minutes from our Savasi Island marina)            Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Description:  World famous in Fiji, this is a pelagic dive on the Hibiscus Highway side of Savusavu where you’ll encounter our resident school of scalloped hammerheads, grey reef and white-tip sharks, barracuda, bat fish, surgeon fish, unicorn fish, tuna, scorpion leaf fish, anemone fish and popcorn shrimp on adhesive anemones and maybe even a silky. Colin's favourite dive! We never get tired of seeing our hammerheads!!

Purple Garden:
Max depth: 25m         Type of Dive: Moored (15 minutes from our Savasi Island marina)                Level: Intermediate
Description: As the name suggests plentiful purple soft corals set apart this Hibiscus Highway side of Savusavu dive site as one of the best. Combine that with magic coral, sea fans, sea whips, nudibranchs and a fabulous swim thru, you’ll be the envy of your friends. One of J-9's favourite dives.

Dungeons and Dragons:
Max depth: 21m                 Type of Dive: Live Boat/Drift (15 minutes from our Savasi Island marina)            Level: Intermediate
Description:  Some rate this cavern and swim thru dive on the Hibiscus Highway side of Savusavu as a highlight in their dive experiences. Shrimp gobi, clams, fish nurseries, juvenile rock mover wrasse, popcorn shrimp on adhesive anemones, magic coral in abundance and a myriad of swim thrus and majestic caverns entice and entertain. J-9 just loves these swim thrus and caverns!!

Devil’s Hideout:
Max depth: 20m                Type of Dive: Moored (15 minutes from our Savasi Island marina)           Level: Intermediate
Description: Only 15 minutes from our Savasi marina in protected waters on the Hibiscus Highway side is this cavern and swim thru dive, studded with lion fish, shrimp gobies, clams, turtles and anemone fish along the way. Scuba Steve is the Devil himself when it comes to leading this dive!

Cathedral:
Max depth: 18m               Type of Dive: Drift (15 minutes from our Savasi Island marina)                Level: Intermediate
Description: Nudibranchs, flatworms, white tips, turtles and more, but the highlight of this Koro Sun side of Savusavu dive site is the large cavern network at the beginning of the dive!

Turtle Alley:
Max Depth: 18m           Type of Dive: Wall (15 minutes from our Savasi Island marina)            Level: All Levels

Description: On the Hibiscus Highway side of Savusavu in the lee of a small island this is an easy dive (usually used for first open water dives) and also our prime snorkelling spot. While being an easy dive it is noted for its interesting topography and increasing soft corals while also hosting turtles, box fish, anemone fish, purple lipped adhesive anemone with popcorn shrimp, leaf fish, juvenile rock mover wrasse, juvenile razor fish, overhangs, swim thrus... All of this make for a great dive site for novices or experienced divers alike. n.b. This dive site is also our favourite snorkelling spot. A number of coral heads at around 5m/15ft which afford great fish and coral spotting opportunities. Also, often turtles and white tips are able to be seen while snorkelling and sometimes huge hump head wrasse.

Namena Marine Reserve – Chimneys:
Max Depth: 20m                               Level: Intermediate
Type of Dive: Pinnacle live boat dive (1.5 hours from our Savasi marina - full day trip in conjunction with another Namena dive)
Description: World class diving is to be found at Namena. On this macro and invertebrate dive two soft coral covered bommies are split by a 40 metre break which means you can spiral down the first pinnacle at your leisure try some shark and garden eel spotting on the ocean floor and explore 2x rocky features with lots of life, then spiral up the second bommie. The brilliant soft corals are dazzling and the small marine life abundant and equally as colourful and diverse as the corals. It’s hard to imagine a more beautiful and active site to complete your safety stop on. Save more than 3 minutes of air to see the safety stop is always my advice!! We do however get complaints about the safety stop..., "There was too much to look at! " Chimmneys should be high on the list of must do’s in life. Veteran divers often rate it as their best dive ever in all their years of diving.

Namena Marine Reserve – Grand Central Station:
Max Depth: 30m                                   Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Type of Dive: Drift (1.25 hours from the marina - full day trip in conjunction with another Namena dive)
Description: A premiere dive site, and as its name suggests, this site is full of comings and goings down the wall! Multitudes of  grey reef and white tip sharks and even the occasional scalloped hammer head. Huge wrasse, tuna, barracuda and snapper. At times it’s hard to know where to look as there is so much to look at! If you’re into pelagics you’ve gotta do this dive!

Namena Marine Reserve – Blue Ribbon:
Max Depth: 25m               Level: Intermediate
Type of Dive: Drift (1.75 hours from the marina - full day trip in conjunction with another Namena dive)
Description: Another premiere dive site, involving 2 main pinnacles and several lower features. On this macro and invertebrate dive two soft coral covered bommies are split by a 50 metre break which means you can spiral down the first pinnacle at your leisure then swim to the second coral head, spiral up the second, interspersing it with checking out the lower features surrounding the coral head, and of course the garden eels between the features. Included is the highlight, sighting the  blue ribbon eel. The brilliant soft corals are dazzling and the small marine life abundant and equally as colorful and diverse as the corals. Often we will give divers the opportunity to save a few bar and we'll drop in on this site after doing Chimneys and Grand Central for a look at the Blue Ribbon Eel, in effect providing you with 3 dives.

Somosomo Strait/Rainbow Reef - Rainbow Passage:
Max Depth: 20m                                    Level: Intermediate
Type of Dive: Wall/Drift (2.15 hours from the marina - full day trip in conjunction with another Somosomo dive)
Description: A fairground type ride awaits you as the current carries you along the length of the bountiful reef where brilliant soft corals dazzle and you share the underwater world with a multitude of local marine life: Dog Tooth Snappers, Maori Wrasse, Blue Ribbon Eel, Scorpion Fish, Lion Fish, Barracuda, White Tip Reef Shark, Black Tip Reef Shark and many more who call this reef area home.

Somosomo Strait/Rainbow Reef – White Wall:
Max Depth: 30m                        Level: Advanced
Type of Dive: Wall (2 hours from the marina - full day trip in conjunction with another Somosomo dive)
Description: One of Fiji’s renowned dive sites, a wonderland awaits you. You begin the dive by disappearing down, down, down, through a tunnel to soft corals on the wall where it’s apparent how the dive site gained its name as a brilliant display of white corals, more expected on a ski slope than underwater, greets you. As you cruise along it is the white wall which surely grabs your attention, but also splashes of colourful soft corals, sea whips, gorgonian fans, sponges and crinoids  make for dramatic viewing. The chance to then traverse the shallower reaches of the reef where lionfish, octopus,  and morays come out to play and then do the tunnel & wall again....
